The Story So Far

"What started as something to make my friends happy in lockdown has now turned into a full time business"

Savannah Roqaa, known as the Savvy Baker, set up her baking business from her small apartment kitchen in Roundhay in 2020 as something to keep her busy over the first lockdown. Swapping her life as a makeup artist and nanny, to be a full time baker and business owner. Within just a few months, the Savvy Baker went from strength to strength, out growing her home kitchen, relocating to larger premises & having several staff working around the clock to keep up with demand from her online and local orders.
Savannah said "I've never been a baker, but I'm naturally creative and it was a fun and education thing to do whilst looking after the children. When lockdown started in March 2020, I started making brownies and dropping off care packages to my friends to cheer them up! They shared images of the cakes on social media and before I knew it, I had people direct messaging me for brownies and cakes, and overnight I set up The Savvy Baker. Initially I worked from home, but right from the off I was baking 30-40 boxes of brownies a week so quickly outgrew my kitchen. I have lots of friends in the nightlife industry, so they kindly let me use their premises to bake from to start off with"

In 2021, The Savvy Baker continued to flourish and grow, and in doing so Savannah achieved the milestone of opening her own bakery to support the endless flow of orders, pop ups and events. The Savvy Baker staff continued to grow too, with more bakers, packers, delivery drivers and event staff joining the team. Due to the power of social media, The Savvy Baker's following continued to grow, hitting over 40,000 followers within just 1 year of business, and attracted celebrity clients such as England Football Star, Kalvin Phillips.
To support fellow small businesses, especially those that launched over the pandemic, The Savvy Baker bakery hosted several local business markets in 2021, where attendees could shop anything from house plants, to resin pieces, to pizza and brownies, all from the Seacroft location.

Pop ups also took over through the summer with The Savvy Baker having stalls at Taste London, Harrogate Food Festival, Multistories Leeds and the North Leeds Food Festival to name just a few. To wrap the year up, The Savvy Baker had a residency in Trinity Leeds, providing brownies to the shoppers of Leeds between September and December - just in time for Christmas!

In 2022, the latest milestone was hit.. Savannah and her partner Jordan launched The Savvy Café on Lidgett Lane in Roundhay at the beginning of April. Open Tuesday through to Sunday every week, The Savvy Cafe offers a full range of bakes (including some options for allergens & intolerances), Hot Drinks & Coffee supplied by North Star and a range of sandwiches and toasties. The Savvy Café is also dog friendly! Bring your four legged friend along with you for a chance to be featured on the "Doggie Wall of Fame" (and so that we can cuddle your pooch too!)
Keep your eyes peeled for what's coming next, as The Savvy Baker ain't stopping yet. New products are being launched regularly to keep you dying for more, and more events are on the way.....
